With 98 students enrolled in debate classes in the school, laptop computers are severely needed so that all students can more fully participate in an activity that depends on being able to perform internet-based research, and fast retrieval of files and evidence.
It may seem like computers are unnecessary in debate, an activity generally thought of as a war of words, but where students are compiling vast amounts of research and data to deliver intelligent arguments and writing, computers have become indispensable. Over time, middle school and high school debate has moved away from using large volumes of paper and now research is compiled almost exclusively in electronic formats. While this has its benefits, this has left many kids behind, as access to technology remains difficult for many families.
Your donation goes to help a debate class where many students are left struggling with the burden managing paper files and accessing lab computers to prepare speeches. Having a laptop is a game changer for a debate student. Writing becomes easier. Accessing evidence is no longer a contest of looking through folders. And time and energy can be spent in using technology to achieve our educational objectives.
