Students should be reading every day for 25-30 minutes. Why not use those minutes reading enjoyable, award-winning books that will be pleasureable and also memorable?!? Childrens' classics like Whistle for Willie, Three Billy Goats Gruff, The Giving Tree, Rapunzel, The Story of Ferdinand, Rumpelstiltskin, and the Velveteen Rabbit will find a home in our classroom.
Isn't our ultimate goal as educators not only to teach children how to read, but to encourage a lifelong love of reading! I think every child deserves enjoyable, interesting, and high-quality, grade level appropriate books.
Just imagine never reading your favorite books as a child. You wouldn't feel the same about reading, right? My students may very likely run into an all time favorite if this project gets fulfilled. Please help! =)
