Our school was one of the few to receive Kindles for every 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. Since technology is a big part of our daily lives and influences the way we learn, I would like to bridge the gap between technology and the world of P.E., or Physical Education. As a technology center person it's only natural that I want to carry this over into my daily teaching. Thus, I want to teach students how to use technology in their active lifestyle, including tracking their daily activity to help educate students on the amount of consistent fitness needed to live a happy and healthy life.
For my project I want to integrate our class Kindles while using a Bluetooth style fitness activity tracking wristband to monitor our daily fitness. I believe with these wristbands my students can learn to monitor their heart rate within each activity. For example, when my students enter the school gym they will place a wristband on themselves and start with warm-ups which consist of moderate to vigorous exercises, stretches, and activities. They will compare their heart rate before and after the warm-ups. Later, students will do the same for the daily lesson and then compare results. As they continue to use the fitness tracker wristband they will see improvements in lowering their heart rate. At the end of the class each student will sync their progress to their Kindle using an app designed for the fitness tracking wristband that we are requesting. This will help the students keep track of their own progress electronically via bar graphs and charts.
