At our school, children play on an empty blacktop with no playground equipment. While there is plenty of space to explore and play, there is nothing constructive to play with. Students need to learn how to interact and work cooperatively through engaging and physical play. We need jump ropes, hula hoops, board games, and more.
This equipment will foster an environment of free choice and interactive play. Critical social and emotional development takes place during this period of time. Our kids deserve the same opportunities as their same-aged peers regardless of their socioeconomic status and all the learning these opportunities can afford them. With this project, recess will soon become a constructive and exciting time!
