I would love to be able to give these kiddos what they need in terms of sensory. Unfortunately we do not have the funding for a complete sensory room, so I am trying my best to provide those experiences in my classroom.
All supplies that are donated will be used in my classroom on a daily basis during a special sensory time as well as for sensory breaks that they so desperately need during the day. Items such as a trampoline, Jellyfish seating, and musical instruments will be utilized for gross motor and movement activities to help assist with movement needs. Items such as the Leggos, Train sets will be utilized as reinforcement tools for students, along with helping with fine motor skills. Items such as Leggos can be a HIGHLY reinforcing item for a student and will allow them break time during an academic task to maintain focus. ABC's carpeting would allow students a defined boundary while they listen to a story. Personal space is a skill students with Autism struggle with, so providing a defined space will allow them to see their personal space as well as remind them they should be sitting on a particular spot.
Sensory materials will bring a new light to the children in my classroom. Thank you so much for your help in this effort! The children will be so thankful.
