Yoga is a life-long tool students can use to help increase focus and boost confidence. The Yoga Mats and Blocks I have selected will be used to teach basic yoga moves the students will be able to do in and out of the classroom. Stress and anxiety is a common concern with young students with the rise of high stakes testing. Additionally, in a Title I school, many students have experienced stress related to struggles outside of school. Young students can also have difficulty understanding the different emotions they feel throughout their lives. Yoga practice helps teach students how to channel the different emotions they are feeling and build life-long skills they can use throughout their entire life.
When students know how to breathe and move correctly, they are much more likely to use the tools in their everyday lives. Being able to manage stress, along with other emotions, is a skill that can be carried throughout students' educational career as well as into college and career. However without the proper materials to practice yoga, these skills won't be properly acquired.
