The books and supplies I am requesting will allow my students to develop a love for reading while preparing them for their post-high school goals. My classroom uses the Scholastic Read180 program to help improve students' reading comprehension and writing skills. Read180 divides each class period into three sections:
Independent Reading: Students read independently for 15-20 minutes per day. Their independent reading books are within their reading level and should be a topic that is interesting to the student. I currently have a reading corner and small library. The books and bookshelf from this project will provide my students with new and appropriate books to spark their excitement.
Instructional Software: Students will use the 15 headphones to listen to texts and respond to comprehension questions, practice spelling words, and fluent reading skills.
Small Group: I work with students in groups of 5-6 to practice literacy and writing skills while giving them immediate feedback on their work. This intimate setting creates a comfortable environment where students can take educational risks that develop their reading and writing skills.
