Having iPads available during center and independent work time will allow our diverse group of first grades to receive even more specialized instruction to meet their individual needs. Our classroom of 32 students is a wonder mixture of English language learners, students with disabilities and students performing well above and well below grade level. In addition to their varying abilities, our students live in a high poverty area where many educational resources are not easily accessible for their families. In the classroom, my co-teacher, paraprofessional and I individualize our instruction to meet each child's needs the best way we can. Having iPads available for children to use during center time and independent practice will give our students additional opportunities to practice the skills we teach them at a pace and level appropriate for them. There are numerous apps and websites our students can use to learn and that promote social/emotional development but they do not have access to them without these iPads.
