The materials that I have requested will be used by my students in ways that will help them grow, learn, and enjoy school to the fullest. I would like to provide my students with the opportunity to read brand new undamaged books as well as have access to clean toys. The current rug, toys and kitchen center (where important social development takes place) are all damaged and outdated. I would like to buy a kitchen set to inspire imaginative play, when students have options they interact with materials more creatively. I currently am using a rug that has no stopper on the bottom, it is slippery and this limits the amount of students that are allowed in the kitchen area at one time. I would like to have a brand new CLEAN (the current one is dirty and ripped) rug for them to explore during center time. I have a set of two chairs that are literally falling apart - I am including bean bag chairs, and a sofa for my reading center. When kids have a quiet place to enjoy books in the classroom they are more easily inspired to read and are more likely to become lifelong readers. The books that I have in my room have been donated to me by a teacher who just retired - they are 25 years old and in very poor condition. I would like to begin to build up my classroom library and the sets of books included in my list (all award winning picture books) will be a great way to help jump start my Kindergartners reading. It is my goal to make sure that these children have access to new high quality materials and are given the best opportunity for success
