The Scholastic News will help spark their curiosity in topics they might otherwise not have been exposed to. The students will have the opportunity to interact with non-fiction text that is engaging and authentic. They will learn how to use images, graphs and charts to gather information. They will use the text features to learn new and exciting non-fiction topics, and to see text structure. There are few students who are exposed to a newspaper at home, and this gives them opportunities to learn! The students will then be able to use the online resources that come along with the newspaper to help deepen their understanding and connections to the topics.
