Each letter of the alphabet is introduced by an animal. For example Catina Cat introduces the letter name "C" and the sound /c/. The students latch onto character names and faces when they can see and touch the characters such as Yancy Yak. Each day my students sing a song with actions to reinforce the character, the letter name and the letter sound. The song is to the melody, "Who Let the Dogs Out?" One line of the song is, "Who let the G out? /G/ /G/ /G/ And students pound their chests like gorillas while making the sound. Stuffed animal toys make the learning fun and real for kids.
