The stability ball chairs, and rocker chairs will allow my students the movement necessary to allow them to sit quietly and focus on their learning. They are supplemental to my direct teaching and will help each and every one of my diverse students meet their learning needs through movement. For example, I have several students who have tried to rock in their chairs as they are studying or reading, only to fall over. They then get frustrated and decide to stand instead, bringing attention to themselves. Each class I teach is in my classroom for 65 minutes. These seating options would not only allow for movement during that hour, but gives them ownership of making a decision that best suits their learning styles which will carry forward into their future education endeavors.
The funding for this project will improve my classroom of diverse students by contributing to their differentiated needs, allowing choice and movement, and alleviating behaviors and distractions by giving them an outlet to move. With less behavioral issues and more focus on learning, my students will be on a better path to meeting their goals and being successful learners.
