One goal I have this year is to teach my students how to be organized. My students are ten and eleven years old. This is a great age to teach organization. To often I see loose paper, food, and all types of other supplies inside my students binders, lockers, and backpacks. Just sitting there crumpled up and messy. Organization is a valuable skill to learn early on in life. When you are unorganized things get lost and forgotten. One of the first things I do at the beginning of the year until the end is model how to stay organized.
Everything has a place and everything is in its place. Classroom mailboxes will help my students become organized with all their papers. They will know exactly where to get graded papers and information to take home to their parents. Mailboxes also teach responsibility. It is the students responsible to check their mailbox every day.
