I want my students to be exposed to preliminary print making methods using foam sheets to 'carve' or press their design. It's difficult to supply 200 plus students with linoleum blocks, but foam is a cheaper and still an effective method!
I have done this assignment in the past, and students love the instant results of their design after pulling a print.
Since foam is easy to cut away and carve, I will have students create more dynamic designs by using subtractive methods to change the foam plate. I was inspired by artist, Jeff Soto, to try the subtractive method of changing a plate to print from.
