These big books will allow my students to focus on the fundamentals of reading, while enjoying great literature. They will learn to track print as they read, sound out words, find sight words, and identify punctuation. They will be able to use wikki sticks or highlighting tape to find words, letters and phrases.
Shared reading will be interactive for them instead of having them just listen to me read. They will be able to help me read the stories.
Big books also make it possible for all students to see the words and pictures. For ESL students, the larger size of the visuals will be especially beneficial.
I am excited about what this project can do for my students' reading skills.
