Academic Workshop at East is a workshop where students can access teachers, peers and technology so they can be successful in their AP and honors classes. Academic Workshop is only in its second year at East, and it has already helped students succeed in their AP level coursework.
One way Academic Workshop addresses equity issues in our student's lives is to provide access to computers in the workshop which supports AP Composition and AP Literature, which I teach. My class has fourteen students, and I currently have only a few older netbooks and laptops. The computers in this project will increase access to technology and give my students tools which they need to improve their writing, a valuable skill which will serve them in college and in their lives after college.
