In Geometry, my students are required to construct many figures and they almost all require a compass! In the last month we have learned how to construct different kinds of triangles, copy and bisect angles, make regular hexagons, bisect line segments and more. Right now students are sharing compasses with 1 compass for 5 or 6 students which is slowing down our our learning process immensely.
In addition to a shortage of compasses, the compasses we do have look like a Frankensteinish art project. They are falling apart and are barely being held together with tape. Duct tape is a wonderful tool, but even it can only do so much for so long. We need to use compasses regularly all year long. These tools are vital to our learning!
