Legos are so much more than just toys. By starting a Lego Club that takes place after school, I hope to encourage many students to be creative, flexible thinkers. While constructing their inventive creations, students will be strengthening fine motor and critical thinking skills.
By working with other students on Lego projects, students will practice using teamwork and effective communication skills. Students will often be given building challenges where they will need to use problem solving skills to construct their creations, but they will also have ample time for creative, free builds.
For elementary school children, the benefits of building with Legos are endless. In addition to strengthening of all the skills mentioned above, another goal of this project is to create a sense of community at my school. Extracurricular activities can result in positive attitudes in students who may not otherwise be excited about school.
Also, many students who attend my school do not have the resources to purchase their own Legos at home and, therefore, will not have the opportunity to use the tools without the creation of a Lego Club.
The resources for my project include a variety of Legos as well as a cart and bins to keep the Legos organized so they will be easily accessible when students are using them. I also included Lego sets that contain popular movie characters to attempt to maximize club participation for both girls and boys.
Students who participate in the club will have the opportunity to make new friends and get to know new teachers. I believe this club has the potential to benefit students in a variety of ways. Thank you so much for considering making a donation to my project!
