My first-grade students come through the door every day, ready to learn something new. As six and seven-year-old learners, they are very active and need concrete material to understand place value concepts. These materials will help them bridge the gap between the concrete and the abstract. Students will deepen their learning while engaged in fun activities designed to motivate and teach.
Hands-on materials will help my students develop a true understanding of our number system. These materials will also provide me with a quick way to assess their understanding of these complex concepts. A strong foundation and understanding of place value is critical for mathematical work in future grades.
