Our students struggle with reading. They struggle finding text they want to read, finding time to actually read and struggle to see where their skills need improvement. As a way to engage the whole school into reading, we are hosting a 2016-2017 Battle of the Books. The goal is to engage all of our students, no matter your grade level into reading, finding love in reading, discussing books and having fun reading.
The battle will showcase 32 books, ranging from different genres to meet the reading needs of all of our students. Students are encouraged to read as many of the 'battle books' or to create a team and divide the books to read. In April, we will begin voting on the 32 books. Each couple of weeks the book that wins will move on to eventually choose our school's favorite book of the 2016-2017 school year. We will have a book battle where students can create teams and compete to see who knows our books. Throughout the year, we want to incorporate the battle books into assemblies. Staff is also encouraged to read the books.
We want students to enjoy reading. We want students to value reading and to see that is also social. We want to foster a culture of book appreciation and share our love of reading with our amazing students.
