My students need exposure to non-fiction text in content areas such as science, politics, current events and nature. Scholastic News provides children with reading opportunities that they wouldn't otherwise have to learn about the world around them. They are fun, engaging, and most importantly they tap into children's natural curiosity!
The articles and photographs motivate the most reluctant readers! Children are able to take them home and share them with their family, which creates the important home to school connection. Many of my students have very few reading materials in their homes.
This classroom newspaper will help increase vocabulary and reading fluency...and best of all, students won't even know they're learning!
