These books will help me to foster a lifelong love for reading in Spanish for my English Language students. My classroom library is an incredible tool my students use to see that they have multilingual superpowers. They love looking through the books in Spanish and English to find new characters. The students even ask to have the next book in a series because they fall in love with the characters so much!
With these books, my students will be able to see the value in their native language and see their multilingual superpower in action. Learning to read in their native language and developing those skills is so important for my students' language development and self-esteem. It creates an understanding that their multilingualism isn't a deficit, but a great addition to their lives that can help them to be successful in life.
These books will give the students more choices about what they read in Spanish. The best way to create a love of reading is by giving the students choice and having books that interest them. These are books and characters that students have expressed interest in which will make them stronger readers. These books will truly be cherished, valued, and most importantly read!
