My special needs students work best in an environment they are comfortable in. Before any learning can take place they need to feel safe and secure. Students with sensory needs and attention deficits are often distracted by traditional seating.
Flexible seating allows my students to have a voice in how they learn best. It allows them to use higher-order thinking skills to determine where they work best and in what position. It encourages them to choose a spot where they can be productive and stay focused. Flexible seating allows for sensory input, which is helpful for students with Autism and ADHD.
