The photograph here is of my Chemistry Club after their presentation at Caltech last Spring.
As a Chemistry teacher at West Adams HS there are two things I want most for my students: One, they are expert in appreciating the diversity, complexity, and strength of humanity and our universe. And two, to know they are capable of changing their world for the better.
One thing that supports these goals is when my students experience using the many modern techniques and skills that scientists employ. I am using Donors Choose so that I can: (1) Buy scientific probeware so students can go out into our community to take chemical measurements.
(2) Buy parts to repair our old, practically dead computers so students can analyze and map the community data they collect. (3) Go on field-trips to university labs to have their student samples further analyzed using various forms of spectrometry and chromatography.
