A science classroom is a very hands-on learning environment. Using technology with this setting should be no different. These days, most students enter school already very familiar with technology. Some are even more familiar than their teachers. Unfortunately, the resources at a Title I school can limit the potential technology has on a student's ability to grow. Laptop carts and computer labs serve as stationary areas to explore digital learning. However, scientific investigation is rarely a stationary activity.
By using tablets, my students have a better chance to investigate the natural world around them with portable technology. Using apps that support scientific inquiry can prepare students for the fast moving, technology heavy careers of their futures. With tablets, students can take videos or pictures of ecosystems near the playground, study the stars during the day, and create digital stories that creatively document their learning.
