I am a 7th grade English teacher at an inner-city middle school in West Athens, South Los Angeles. A vast majority of my students come from immigrant, non-English speaking households and more than 90% of them are eligible for free and reduced-price meals. The population I serve is predominantly Hispanic/Latino and African American students. Due to the personal struggles that my students face, and the low funding my school receives, it is often difficult to provide them with everything they need to be successful. I love teaching and I always endeavor to go above and beyond to help my students succeed.
