The students in our school and around the world today are obsessed with technology. It's so hard to get their eyes off of their phone and their noses into a good book. I want them to read, first-hand, a science fiction novel on their reading level that was written in 1953 by Ray Bradbury that basically predicts the future (the REALITY) we live in today. Fahrenheit 451 discusses how technology leads to the downfall of a society and shows how excessive technology-use damages social/communication skills. We want students to acknowledge this issue while exceeding grade-level standards and hopefully making a change in the world we live in today by taking action and reading instead of texting!
