Kicking off Earth Day, this project will help my students to learn the importance of taking care of our planet and that one thing they can do is use fabric bags instead of plastic bags. Also, the students will take this "lesson" home and teach their parents to become environmentally conscious. They will begin to save the planet one bag at a time. I did this project once about nine years ago, and the students really enjoyed it. They took pride in stenciling their names and painting their bags and used them when they went shopping. The sponges and stencils can be reused each year which will allow me to have an annual Earth Day project.
