I am an elementary teacher in Boynton Beach, FL. I currently teach a class of 2nd grade boys at a charter school.
My school includes grades K-8. We currently have two laptop carts with a total of 40 computers. Teachers are allowed to check these carts out daily. There is an elementary and middle school computer lab. When diagnostic and state testing begin, we are unable to utilize this technology. Our 2nd grade students currently have technology class once every seven days for 30 minutes. I have two desktop computers in my class that students use during math and reading rotations. Often times, I allow my students to use my assigned teacher laptop to allow more students use of technology. During these rotations, students are using a program titled iReady which individualizes lessons targeted to each student's strengths and weaknesses.
My goal is to add at least two Chromebooks to the classroom that can be added to our computer/technology center. These computers will allow some students to work on their weaknesses while challenging high performing learners. This technology will also allow me to gather immediate feedback to steer our instruction so that it is data driven. They are an awesome set of young gentlemen who need an added push and incentive in the learning process. I have seen their growth and can only imagine how this technology will further advance them.
Should you choose to aid us in our endeavor, my students and I would be enormously grateful! Thank you for your support and consideration! Help spread the word!
