Students at my school overcome many challenges everyday. School is the one thing many have where they know they will get the support they need. At Evanston I try to make a positive impact with all of my students.
Music is relief for so many of our students. When the kids come to music class they are attentive and curious to learn more. While music is greatly supported, unfortunately, we do not have the funds to purchase some instruments for our students.
I would like to start teaching Ukelele to my 5th and 6th graders. Teaching general music can be tough at times. Especially to older students.
I am hoping that by getting the ukeleles requested that I can teach students to play songs that are relatable to them. This will give them something to look forward to when coming to school and music class. The goal is to have the students do an end of the year performance on their ukeleles this year!
Hopefully, by starting this program, we will be able to reach out to the community and other students to help them develop an appreciation for the arts.
