This book cart loaded with leveled readers will allow my students the opportunity to choose books for their book boxes to read in class as well as choose books to take home each evening to read with parents. They will have the opportunity to read books on their level and will have several books to choose from. Having books for students to choose from that are on their independent reading levels is important for all students because research shows that reading at 98% or higher accuracy is essential for reading acceleration.
Students will read independently each day and share out with classmates what they read. They will also read with a buddy and share out as well. I am hoping to instill in all of my students the love of reading at a young age by giving them books to choose from that are on their reading level. Research shows the importance of students having books to choose from and books on their reading level. "When students have access to good fit texts, they read accurately, solidifying their word-recognition, decoding, and word-analysis, but perhaps more importantly, they are more likely to enjoy what they read, and in return enjoy reading."- Richard Allington
