When students read books that relate to the language in their heart their love for reading grows. My students will be able to check out books from the classroom, so that they can read at home to their parents. This will help in establishing a reading routine at home.
This will help to bridge a connection between home and school.
My students will also be able to read to their siblings, and continue to grow in their native language. The Spanish books will allow my students to reread books like Captain Underpants and Diary of a Wimpy in their native language. The bilingual books will help my students make connections, see people and characters that look like them. This will help to keep them engage and start conversations between students, parents, and myself.
