In my African American Literature and regular American Literature classes we read books that celebrate diverse voices alongside the traditional texts. We also read stories that have positive representation of minorities. We are in a Title 1 school with a large population of Mexican/Latinx Americans, African Americans, Indigenous Americans, Refugees, white and Asian students. Being on a diverse campus with multiple language speakers means teaching acceptance and inclusion a main mission of my teaching and the literature I choose to share with my students.
