My students use very basic words to express themselves and are learning to use a variety of words when they speak and write.
My students need materials to improve their vocabulary. "Understanding Multiple Meanings Teaching Cards" will help them learn the various meanings of words during small group activities. The "Grab and Match Leveled Multiple Meaning Quickies" can be used both in small group teacher instructed activities as well as in centers in the classroom for students to practice independently. The "Shades of Meaning Word Fans" can be used in small group story and writing time to help students use more advanced words to strengthen their narratives. The "Storyteller Writing Box" helps give students the foundation for their storytelling with visual cues. The cues can then be used to create a written or verbal story, using the multiple meaning words they have been taught during the lesson. Sheet protectors will be used to display the students' narratives in the hallway to share with their peers.
These materials will help my students learn that words have a variety of meanings in different contexts. They will be incorporated into small group instruction as well as in the classroom. These activities will help not only their vocabulary when speaking in a small group, but also when reading, writing and sharing information through class projects.
