Incorporating and integrating a set of (4) Sphero programmable robot balls and mobile tablets, students will work in pairs to calculate, navigate and solve obstacle courses, and complete tasks using command macros and text-based programming while participating in multi-digit arithmetic reinforcement lessons which students must use to program Sphero to move and navigate.
Numeration, Fractions, and numerical expressions lessons will be utilized to program Sphero to maneuver simple obstacle courses and students will then advance to completing tasks that include jumps and navigating curves.
Finally, students will investigate measurement as they program Sphero's multiple sensors to transverse complex obstacle courses while completing tasks such as object manipulation. With the addition of this technology, student engagement and the real world application of mathematical concepts will increase substantially.
