Students will use these almanacs to learn, practice, and apply the skill of using printed reference materials.
Students will learn how to use nonfiction book parts to find the answer to a question, which is a strong skill in the logical problem-solving process. I believe that this is not a dying skill, but rather a skill that should be perpetuated.
To do this, I challenge them in a fun and engaging way. We learn how to use print reference materials, as well as the importance of each type. Then we do a massive, grade-wide hunt in which they rise to the challenge of using their learned knowledge to answer questions (then to create some of their own). Students truly enjoy this activity -- challenging themselves, logical problem solving, and getting to work with students in other classes. However, I do not have all of the resources I need! Of what I do have, many are incredibly outdated.
