Last year, a Latin program was created at our school to give the inner city students that we serve access to the type of rigorous academic curricula that are available at a more prestigious and exclusive schools in the city. The socio-economic challenges, however, that our student body faces can make it difficult to access some of the most basic supplies that are necessary for daily lessons and projects. Writing takes place in our Latin classes on a daily basis, so materials such as lined paper and chalk are hot commodities. Many students also have difficulty providing their own materials for larger projects, so materials such as poster boards and construction paper are also needed.
