My students are the most capable of learning and excelling, but given their circumstances are not always perceived in that way. We are in a high poverty school district, free/reduced lunch and breakfast, and students deal with more than just homework. Many do not have the technology needed to complete work at home, or extend concepts learned in the classroom. Within our classroom, we do not have the resources that we need, especially in Science and Math. We lack science books, and without concrete examples, it is hard for students to make connections to concepts that are being taught. Without Math games, students can not see how math can be fun, and tend to stray away from any deeper understandings.
Having IPads in our classroom would transform the way we learn on a daily basis. I would be able to open up a whole new world to these students, giving them experiences through technology that most will never have in their lifetime. Being able to make some of the most abstract ideas come to life by technology would inspire these students and really help to maximize their interest level. IPads would help foster their higher order thinking skills, and we would have games, not only for Science but also for Math, to help promote tremendous growth in my classroom.
