Our classroom is in need of a makerspace that all students have access to. "A makerspace is a community destination where our students...can create, problem-solve, and develop skills, talents, and thinking.." With your help, we will set up our makerspace, which will be a place where students will learn through hands-on activities and creation. Design based learning theory will be in conjunction with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and STEM. This will be a place in our classroom where students will have the opportunity to create and failure will be an opportunity to learn. The goal of our makerspace is to allow students to connect in non-traditional ways to the curriculum. Students will build, create, code, and apply mathematical and scientific based thinking. Utilizing the makerspace, our goal is to close the current achievement gap in mathematics, by allowing students another outlet to express their knowledge of standards.
