My students attend a school that has over 400 fourth and fifth graders with less than 100 Chromebooks available for them to use. The shortage of laptops is detrimental to my student's education considering how the educational world is constantly evolving. We have made it work to the best of our ability, but my students would flourish tremendously with a one to one ratio of Chromebooks to students.
Having the Chromebook cart in my classroom will assist our classroom in going green! I have a Google Classroom that students complete assignments, projects, and assessments on. This tool has allowed our classroom to go almost paperless. However, this is not possible when I do not have a cart available to me.
The state testing that occurs in the spring is done on the computer. Having a Chromebook cart in my classroom and using them on a daily basis allows for my students to work with the technology and get familiar with the it. I feel that this will improve their test scores because they will be comfortable using the technology and will just have to worry about the material at hand. It will minimize test anxiety.
Not only is it difficult to reserve the few Chromebooks that the school does have, but it is not fair to my students that need extra time to work on their tasks. Due to the shortage of devices, we only check them out for one hour increments in order to be courteous to the other classes. This causes many of my students to be rushed or have incomplete assignments.
