The materials I have requested will help my speech students become more proficient communicators. Our current materials are dated, many of the images being black and white! The language/vocabulary games requested will be used to help develop vocabulary that aligns with common core standards and current vocabulary trends. Using these language stations/games in small groups of 2-3, will give the students the small group, repeated exposure they need to attach meaning and carry skills over into their classrooms. While some of these materials will be teacher guided lessons, the ability to add self-check stations will allow for both the students to develop their own work ethic and application of knowledge, as well as more time for me to focus one on one with other children while students are engaged in these exciting stations.
Allowing these students the opportunity to learn new vocabulary will increase their ability to effectively communicate their wants, needs, and knowledge.
The children that come to my room, often have limited print exposure at home, meaning limited vocabularies at school. It is my goal to teach these children how words can be used to make our messages more meaningful, and therefore, more effective.
