As the Literacy Cluster Teacher, I visit 3 classrooms daily to read stories and engage children in nursery rhymes, finger-plays, felt-board stories and music & movement. After, I provide various art materials to facilitate open-ended art inspired by the day's literature.
Coloring outside of the lines and painting purple pumpkins are the order of the day! Inspired by "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus"? We need feathers! Inspired by "It Looked Like Spilt Milk"? We need finger-paints! Inspired by Eric Carle's collages? We need tissue paper!
My goal for my students is for them to become confident artists and familiar with a wide variety of art materials. It is my hope that they create without being restricted by directives from me or other adults. I want them to think outside of the box!
