Having just begun my tenth year as a classroom teacher and recently (within the past 5 years), having adopted Common Core State Standards, more and more is being asked of our students. I would like to provide them the opportunity to make some choices when it comes to their learning. Due to the fact our curriculum doesn't lend itself to "student" choices, I would love for them to be able to choose where and how they would like to work around the room during work times.
Over the past year, I have done lots of research reading books, articles, testaments, and classroom management strategies for flexible seating in the classroom. Flexible seating allows children to decide where they are able to focus to complete their work to the best of their ability. As an adult I sit in meetings and watch colleagues fidget, get up and walk around, doodle, or even begin conversation with a neighbor because of the uncomfortable seating environment we are in. If adults do this, I can only imagine how a child feels having to be in a chair hours a day.
Please help support my students and their learning by making a donation. Any amount is appreciated!
