Today's students need to develop critical thinking skills in order to solve the problems that they will face in our 21st century society. I believe that good thinking skills can be taught, and I know that it is my responsibility as a teacher to strengthen the minds of my students through the classroom activities that we undertake each day.
Using robots in the classroom will allow my students to practice coding skills in hands-on situations. The coding process requires students to think ahead, make detailed plans, and then adjust their initial plans to achieve desired results. This teaches not only vital problem solving skills but also encourages perseverance and collaboration among students as well.
Funding of this project would allow me to receive two Dash robots and Launchers for my classroom. Dash is a user-friendly robot for young children, and I believe that my students would have fun and flourish as they learn to code his movements. The launchers would allow teams of students to construct obstacles for Dash while other teams of students code Dash's movements so that he can launch balls over and around the obstacles. Learning through play: What could be better?
