The materials that will be used for purchase are supplies that the students will be using for competing in GreenPower competitions. The objective of the project is to advance education in the subjects of sustainable engineering, science and technology for middle school students. GreenPower presents engineering challenges for students based around designing and building a single seat electric powered race car. At Discovery Middle School students have constructed two cars while learning various science, math, technology and engineering concepts.
In order to achieve our goal of providing our students an outstanding educational experience, we strive to apply not only engineering career principles of design and construction, but also the ability to present ideas in a manner that uses leading technology in today's world. Materials such as the GoPro, Bluetooth headsets, SD Cards, etc. will be used to help with communicating and live time analysis and telemetry of our cars.
Students will learn how to use tools to design new concepts and create them using industry leading technology. Students will also learn how to research concepts that could improve the car's performance.
GreenPower is an excellent way to bring all together such as project leads, mechanical, driving, social interaction, electrical, public speaking, and designing. By providing students the opportunity to bridge disciplines, new connections are generated and important contributions are created. Students are able to combine multiple disciplines and pursue different ways of thinking about the same problem or subject. This helps students develop critical thinking skills and provides real world applications for growth that is relevant to the students.
