Choice! A word we take for granted and something we are reluctant to give our young students. This year I want to give my 2nd graders the chance to make their own choices and make their learning time more enjoyable. I have noticed that my students have a much better attention span when they are able to make choices of where to sit during center time. When given choice I noticed that they are fully engaged in their work. Students tend to stay away from traditional desks and chairs and gravitate toward a wobbly chair and/or the carpet or floor. With this project I'm hoping to give my students more choices to enjoy their center time. I believe the yoga balls will bring not only joy to my students during their laptop center time but it will also keep them more focused on the task at hand. Writing is a daunting subject for my 2nd graders. This year I would like to make it more enjoyable by giving my students a place to write beside at their desks. The desk trays and clipboards would bring a new type of hype about writing. I'm hoping that even one of their journal entries will be about the cool new desk trays they get to use during writing.
