The equipment we have requested will help our team to be able to have the basic equipment for a season. We are grateful that a pair of goals have been donated to our team; the goals need new nets. We will also need balls for practice. Many drills require multiple balls to practice the skill. It is important for a team to have a set of goalie equipment on hand because, although a goalie can play in the field, not all the players have the equipment (or desire) to play in the goal.
"Honor the game" is the mantra of the sport. Lacrosse at EWG, being a new sport, offers a unique opportunity to our students. Our seasoned lacrosse players will now play lacrosse with pride at their school. The novice lacrosse players have an opportunity to learn a new skill which may become a life-long passion.
Education is about exposure. Our student-athletes will have an opportunity to learn about lacrosse's rich history as one of the oldest team sports. Lacrosse was originally played by native North Americans not only as a game, but also as a method to settle arguments, and as a way to thank and honor The Creator.
Even though lacrosse is a new sport to our school, it has similarities to many other sports. Skills from cross country, basketball, hockey and football can be utilized and incorporated on the lacrosse field. Discipline, confidence, teamwork, perseverance are also skills gleaned from the game of lacrosse. There is a certain etiquette, and manner in which one conducts himself, that comes with honoring the game of lacrosse, which is a valuable life lesson.
