My students need a mixer and rolling pins for cooking. This course is designed to provide ESL students with learning experiences that allows them to meet the new Common Core Standards and graduation requirements. The ESL program is sensitive to students’ first language and culture. This course addresses the four language skill, areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Using technical reading skills students will learn how to prepare basic foods and explore food related careers. Students will learn about kitchen safety, sanitation, measuring and math, reading and understanding a recipe and proper use of kitchen equipment. Students will understand the recommendations of the Food Guide Pyramid for good nutrition and work cooperatively in lab groups for hands-on experience with food preparation.
