These materials will make a difference for not only my students, but the teachers and the entire school through the technology that we use everyday. All of my students love to create educational videos for their peers. These videos will capture students in action, whether it be a Socratic Seminar or a History Tableau in action.
It drives the collaboration piece and students' ability to interact with each other in a positive and productive, yet very respectful manner through academic discourse. In a Socratic Seminar there are Pilots and Co-Pilots. Pilots speak first about the issue at hand and then the Co-Pilots are there to assist the Pilots with additional evidence and academic language scripts for those students who lack confidence in public speaking and discourse. The ability to record our work and present to the class will help improve communication skills, collaboration and engagement for all learners, especially kinesthetic learners. Students will be to listen to their explanations and analyze what makes a good explanation and how a weak explanation can be improved.
With our camcorders and microphones we can showcase our productions to the entire school how we function as a collaborative team and that all students can learn no matter their learning style and all students are treated with equity and respect. Creating our future through our educational videos!!
Teachers will also benefit from this as we are conducting a schoolwide strategy that is based around a Socratic Seminar and the teachers will be able to watch the students in my classroom conduct a discussion.
