I believe that students learn through doing - students need concrete experiences and practice to truly understand new concepts. I previously taught these same students in kindergarten and moved with them to first grade this year. We are in need of first-grade-level materials to enhance our daily lessons and activities. The donations to this project will help my students grow and gain a deeper understanding in the academic areas of literature/writing and mathematics. The reading/writing and dramatic play materials requested will aid students in the practice required to master the state standards and become successful readers and writers through comprehension, word building, sight word recognition, and writing activities. The math materials requested will aid the students as they strive to master the state standards through activities involving addition, subtraction, place value, telling time, comparing numbers, and more. These materials for reading/writing and math will be used in small group instruction as well as cooperative group activities to help children practice first-grade skills. Finally, the printer, thermal laminator, and thermal laminating pockets requested will be used to print and create materials for classroom activities and assessments. My students look forward to coming to school and learning as much as they can and these new materials will help them do that!
